Roulette Odds

Roulette is a game of chance involving a spinning wheel, a roulette ball and a number of pockets. That much you already know I guess, but do you understand the different bet options and the probability of landing certain outcomes?

The important thing in roulette (or any game of chance for that matter) is to understand the odds and to know the payout of the bet. That way, you can compare the difference between the two, and understand the house advantage on the bets. The lower the house edge, the better for you!

A roulette wheel has either 37 or 38 pockets, depending on whether you are playing European Roulette (with a single zero pocket), or American Roulette (with a single zero pocket "0" and a double zero pocket "00"). The house edge in European Roulette is 2.7% and it's 5.26% in American Roulette.

So for the first easy tip we can give you is to play European Roulette over American Roulette. Unless you like putting betts on the double zero pocket, but then that's your business.

In roulette you can improve your odds through your bet selection.

Choose bets with a lower house edge more of the time, and your average odds will improve,

As we have mentioned above, play European Roulette over American Roulette

Avoid the single number bets and the five number bet (only an option if you are playing American Roulette) as these bets have the biggest difference between odds and payout.

We recommend that you "weight" your play with the following roulette bets: the so called "even money" bets ( eg Even, Odd, Low , Hi, Red, Black). All of these bets pay out even money and the probability of them coming in is only just slighter than that.
